'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and his teammate immediately hammered in the deflection before racing off toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory completed an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the latter period. During the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win secured a next round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right wing-back after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way Orient played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It requires a tough attitude and attention just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in his new home. At Orient he reunited with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford City, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without serious challenge. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including both legs encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the kid from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his dad, his father, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

His only game for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was closed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he recalls, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "It was fairly simple, because I reached the point where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and driving. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
