In November 2018, Steve Bannon, formerly a top aide to Donald Trump, was in the UK to deliver a address at the Oxford Union.

The speech was interrupted by numerous protesters, and Bannon, scheduled to travel that night, told Jeffrey Epstein in an email: "Activists delayed speech don't think I can make the flight we are heading to the airport".

Epstein responded: "That. Is a Gulf Air departing at 9:50 with a layover in Bahrain". Bannon replied: "U r an amazing assistant".

These messages were released on Wednesday alongside over 20,000 documents from the estate of Epstein, the deceased convicted sex offender.

The release by the House oversight committee includes an iMessage chat where Bannon's identity is redacted. The BBC has been able to establish his identity by matching the dates, occurrences, and locations mentioned.

For instance, Epstein talks about arranging a plane from Scotland for the redacted user in the chat, and commends their "Oxford speech". Bannon took part in the News Xchange conference on November 14, and gave the talk at the Oxford on November 16.

Bannon, who faces no allegations of any wrongdoing, did not reply on the inquiry.

'I'll make sure you're well looked after'

Bannon was one of Trump's closest aides in the run up to the 2016 election and in the early days of his first administration, but stepped down from the administration in 2017.

He has acknowledged he was producing a documentary about Epstein prior to his death and allegedly has around 15 hours of footage. In a recording of his show recently, he stated: "We plan to release the series, the multi-part documentary, next year - early next year."

But the newly released documents indicate Bannon's connection with Epstein extended than being his biographer, with the convicted paedophile at times seeming to act like a aide.

The released messages also reveal Bannon and Epstein discussing UK politics in that year.

Earlier on the day of his speech at the Oxford, Bannon messaged Epstein: "I became involved in the EU exit thing this morning with Nigel, Boris and Rees Mogg."

Then, in what seems like a allusion to the UK prime minister, the embattled UK prime minister at the period, he continued: "The guys are attempting to move on. may soon…"

Epstein suggested Bannon: "In my view remaining as long as you can in the UK. Ideal- so people get the commitment of your follow through."

Soon after, Epstein inquired: "Will Theresa may remain in power". Bannon answered: "It seems unlikely BUT the guys over here have little courage" and noted "Johnson ; Michael Gove; Rees Mogg; Davis - somebody has to step up".

Theresa May was finally toppled in May 2019 after withstanding two votes of lack of support in December 2018.

A representative for the political party told the BBC: "Nigel Farage has not been in a meeting with Steve Bannon, Rees-Mogg and Johnson." And there is nothing to suggest such a meeting occurred.

The US House of Representatives will decide soon on whether the Department of Justice should make public all its records concerning its investigation into Epstein, who passed away in jail in that year.
